That is actually a different set (346) but I agree, everything I see looked like that as well.  I was wondering if the US/Samsonite set was different, maybe the didn't bother.  Or does anyone know if that painted dots wore off easily?  I need to dig mine out and get a loupe or something to look close for signs of paint.

Does anyone remember getting this set as a kid?  I had it, and 1970 sounds about right.  I swear it never had the dots on the baseplate, but that picture clearly shows it.  I remember spending time counting and getting the spacing right.  I was probably 7 years old when I got it, maybe 6.  Maybe the US set wasn't painted?

I don't do Instagram/Facebook/Twitter, but I just looked your stuff up, and it is impressive, thanks.

I have basically every Tolkien based set, and have been longing to make something extra.  I have a couple in mind and that would do nicely.  I have most of the parts based on Rebricable's estimates (1095).  I'll look into it some more.
