Did you know that the Miata's original designers never intended it to be convertible-only? They always meant for it to be available as a soft-top and in coupe form. Yet, ignoring some limited-production editions, Mazda never released their platonic fun car with a fixed roof.
That is, until 2017, when Mazda finally released a coupe version of their fourth-gen Miata, calling it the RF. It's a thing of beauty, with that gorgeous fastback shape that (IMHO) Mazda should have been selling from the--
Wait, what? You're telling me that the roof in the RF retracts?!? What the heck, Mazda! Oh well... maybe we can just pretend that the top doesn't come down?
I made two versions of this design, and I honestly struggled with which one to publish. So while I ended up feeling like Version 1 was the better looking option (and that's the version the parts list corresponds with), Version 2 has a few advantages, namely:
  • fewer rare parts
  • seats a minifigure more comfortably with the top up

So I recommend taking a look at each before deciding which one to build.

Also note that if fastbacks don't float your boat, it's incredibly straightforward to convert either design into a convertible.
