Messerschmitt ME 262A-1A on Display Stand

The Messerschmitt ME 262 (nicknamed "Schwalbe" in fighter versions or "Sturmvogel" in fighter-bomber versions) was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft used by the German Luftwaffe during World War II. Although it was faster and more heavily armed than any Allied fighter, the ME 262 was introduced too late in the war to compete against the Allies. Only nine ME 262s survive in museums around the world.
